Georgia DMV Permit Practice Test

Using extreme caution to make a left turn when a turning lane is provided for vehicles traveling in both directions is essential for several reasons. This type of lane is designed to facilitate safer turns by allowing vehicles to flow in both directions while providing a dedicated space for turning maneuvers. Because the turning lane is shared, there may be oncoming traffic that could also be using this lane or attempting to turn into it, which increases the potential for conflict.

When making a turn in such a scenario, it is critical for drivers to be aware of their surroundings, including the speed and position of other vehicles, pedestrians, and any possible obstructions. Practicing caution ensures not only the safety of the driver making the turn but also of other road users. This helps prevent accidents that could occur if a driver turns abruptly without adequately assessing the situation on the road.

In contrast, the other choices do not promote safety or adhere to proper driving protocols when using a shared turning lane.
